NOWTA Hosts a Luncheon Reception for the Washington State Legislature


On March 8, 2012, the Northwest Turkish-American Chamber of Commerce (NOWTA) hosted the second annual luncheon reception for Washington State Senate and House of Representatives in Olympia.

Around 150 guests, including Washington state senators and representatives, Los Angeles Consul General of Turkey Hon. Aydin Topcu and a delegation of Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists of Turkey (TUSKON) along with their chief executives attended the event.

The event started with Washington State Governor Christine Gregoire’s proclamation. West America Turkic Council (WATC) President Ozgur Yildiz was the master of ceremonies.

NOWTA’s President Baris Taze welcomed the guests and extended his warm wishes on International Women's Day. Taze voiced NOWTA’s efforts to increase the trade volume between Turkey and Washington state as well as to enhance the bilateral relations between the U.S. and Turkey. He highlighted the fact that within the last 6 months, two Turkish ministers have visited Washington state. Moreover, a Turkish commercial attaché has been appointed to Seattle.

In his speech, Hon. Topcu pointed out that Turkey and the U.S. have been supporting each other and transcending their differences. However, the economic relations between the two countries have not reached their potential. Hon. Topcu stressed the importance of NOWTA’s efforts in the Northwest.

NOWTA Hosts a Dinner in Honor of Turkish Minister of Science, Industry and Technology


On November 29, 2011, the Northwest Turkish-American Chamber of Commerce (NOWTA) hosted a dinner in honor of Hon. Nihat Ergun, the Turkish Minister of Science, Industry and Technology, at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Seattle.



Around 150 guests attended this event. İbrahim Karaosmanoglu, Mayor of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, Tamer Ozmen, General Manager of Microsoft Turkey, Hon. Aydin Topcu, Los Angeles Consul General of Turkey, and Hon. Minister’s delegation were among other distinguished guests.

NOWTA’s President Baris Taze welcomed the guests and announced that NOWTA is about to become a major partner of the Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists of Turkey (TUSKON) in the Northwest.

In his speech, Hon. Ergun pointed out the progress Turkey has made within the last 9 years that has taken Turkey from the 26th largest economy in the world in 2002 to the 16th largest today. One of the ministry’s goals is to strengthen the trade and economic relations between Turkey and the U.S. He emphasized the importance of non-profit organizations and congratulated NOWTA for its great accomplishments since its establishment in 2009.

NOWTA extends its sincere gratitude to Tamer Ozmen and his Microsoft-Turkey team, especially Erdem Erkul, for planning this great visit.

Turkish Minister receives NOWTA's business delegation


On November 30, 2011, Turkish Minister of Science, Industry and Technology, Hon. Nihat Ergun, received NOWTA's delegation, comprising businessmen, academics and professionals, at Four Seasons Hotel in Seattle.

The Minister discussed Turkey's industry and technology strategies and how to back them with researches at universities. Hon. Minister asked thoughts and ideas of our guests and accepted their questions.

NOWTA accompanies Turkish Minister's visit to Boeing


On November 30, 2011, Turkish Minister of Science, Industry and Technology, Hon. Nihat Ergun, paid a visit to Boeing along with his delegation. Northwest Turkish-American Chamber of Commerce (NOWTA) helped to arrange this visit and accompanied the minister during his visit.

Dan Mooney, Vice President at Boeing, welcomed the minister and his delegation and gave a briefing. He also introduced a gift to the minister as a souvenir for his visit. After that, a Boeing officer gave an extended VIP tour to the delegation. NOWTA's board members, Hanifi Kurter and Erdal Bayseckin, also stepped in as two Boeing employees while explaining the product lines to the minister.

NOWTA welcomes Turkish Minister, Nihat Ergün, at Microsoft's Executive Briefing Center


NOWTA and a group of software engineers from Microsoft welcomed the Turkish Minister of Science, Industry and Technology, Hon. Nihat Ergün, at Microsoft's Executive Briefing Center. The minister was accompanied by the General Manager of Microsoft-Turkey, Mr. Tamer Özmen, during his visit to Microsoft headquarters in Seattle.

Mr. Minister and his delegation had a meeting with Microsoft Executives. After the meeting, the Minister and his delegation visited the Microsoft Home, which is equipped with future concept of technology by Microsoft.

Hon. Ergün and Özmen also had a private meeting with Steve Ballmer, the Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft Corporation on the next day.
